hogwarts grounds are a vast expanse of mountainous lands, surrounded by a neighboring forest. from its scenic lake, trimmed lawns, and many more historical areas, there is always something new to be discovered at hogwarts. the quidditch pitch is also a very frequented area to visit at hogwarts, where matches are held during the term.

the lake is to the south of the castle, while the front doors leading to the giant fortress face generally to the west, flanked by pillars on which stand statues of winged boars. a road runs around the lake to the village of hogsmeade, where the railway station is located. the grounds are quite extensive, taking in the large forbidden forest with enough open space that folks in the castle hardly ever notice what might be lurking within those clearings of creeping vines, tendrils, and towering trees.

New Posts Lawns

The grounds of Hogwarts have different places for you to visit at time, meaning the areas that you are permitted to visit, of course. One of these places is known as the Lawns, a very clean and quiet environment. Students love to study along the benches by the corners of the Lawns, because these parts are almost noiseless, which also means less of a possibility that you will be disturbed by the loud laughter and chatting from the other students. Come and enjoy some fresh air!

New Posts Greenhouses

There are several Greenhouses located not too far from the lawns, inside which many plants, herbs, and fungi are grown within their thick, glass walls. If you are looking for Professor Sprout, you can often find her inside one of these greenhouses attending to her plants, and working diligently to prepare her next lessons for the days ahead. The Herbology Greenhouse is also located deep within this maze of glass and wild plants. Bring your dragonhide gloves!

New Posts Whomping Willow

The Whomping Willow is a very rare and violent species of magical plants. It will attack anything that comes within range of its massive, tree trunk sized branches. A deciduous plant, its limbs function as arms, thrashing about to inflict unthinkable damage to the unfortunate intruder. Planted in the year 1971, the Whomping Willow has been disguising the opening of the secret passage leading from Hogwarts to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade Village ever since.

New Posts Boathouse

The boathouse is an underground harbor at Hogwarts, where the boats are stowed away after the first years arrive at school in the beginning of the term. There are some rafters in the ceiling that are used to store the small, wooden boats. There are three entrances to this building: the path outside the Quad, the stairs leading down to the Viaduct Courtyard, and the Lake. Students often set fireworks off from outside the Boathouse, signaling the start of festivities.

New Posts Covered Bridge

The Covered Bridge, also known as the Wooden Bridge, is one of the school's most notable structures. It appears to be derelict, and is constructed of wood beams, which extend to the floor of the ravine it lays across. The roof of the Covered Bridge is sagging, and appears tarred. The bridge blends in nicely with the natural atmosphere, and students often spend time there chatting with friends, studying, or simply misplaced in thought. Take a stroll, and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

New Posts Black Lake

The Black Lake is very serene, which is why many students like to come here frequently throughout the day when their schedules for allow it. From skipping stones to enjoying a leisurely stroll along the shallow ends, one can always enjoy the sweet breeze, and enjoy a little tranquility. Perhaps you may be able to spot a few grindylows, merfolk, and even a tentacle of the giant squid! You will also find The White Tomb by the shores, where the late Headmaster Dumbledore was laid to rest, having his life to the service of the Order of the Phoenix.

New Posts Forbidden Forest

Each term, students are reminded that they are not permitted to enter the Forbidden Forest. If you're lucky enough to escape the forest with your life, you can be certain that the headmistress will claim what's left of it by issuing you so many detentions, you'll graduate from Hogwarts in forty years. Who knows what dangers lie in there? Hogwarts Staff, given their level of magical expertise, are given permission to enter and leave the Forbidden Forest as they wish.
