hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry is a prestigious magical school located in scotland, teaching magical arts to young witches and wizards. it sits on a high cliff that overlooks a great loch, unplottable by muggle eyes. hogwarts' motto is: "draco dormiens nunquam titillandus", meaning: "never tickle a sleeping dragon."

there are approximately one thousand students attending hogwarts at any given time. upon arriving at the school on 1 September, students are sorted into four houses: gryffindor, hufflepuff, ravenclaw, and slytherin, based on the qualities and aspirations of the student. houses are rewarded with points for good behavior, quidditch match victories, and so forth, while points are taken away for wrongdoing. at the end of each term, the house with the most points wins the house cup.

New Posts Entrance Hall

Welcome to the Entrance Hall! It is here that the anxious first years are led at the beginning of the year, right through to the antechamber, before the sorting ceremony. It is also here that you may find them blubbering, because they've lost their way! To the left of this chamber, you will find the Great Hall, where students can eat with friends, or gather for annual feasts during the year.

New Posts Great Hall

Enchanted candles float overhead as though by magic, with a ceiling that appears like a peaceful night's sky. It's not real, you know - it's a decorative enchantment, which brings beauty to the beautifully-lit chamber. In the Great Hall, students settle down to enjoy their meals for the day, or attend annual feasts and celebrations. What delicious foods are on the menu for today?

New Posts Staff Room

Of course, the Hogwarts staff have their own private quarters, where they gather to relax, take care of paper work, or hold conferences as needed to discuss their course work. The staff room is littered with heavy textbooks, with cushions and desks piled with parchments. The only entrance is through that beautiful portrait of Alberic Grunnion you've been curious about. Unfortunately, it's not all paradise; the students frequently bother their professors here, too!

New Posts Broom Cupboard

Located a short distance from the Entrance Hall is the Broom Cupboard, where the school brooms are stored for use by students and staff. While these brooms may not be of the best quality when compared to the more recent brooms released, they serve their purpose, especially during Madam Hooch's Flying Lessons for first years, and not to mention, quidditch practice for our teams.

New Posts Viaduct Courtyard

The Viaduct Courtyard, also known as the Entrance Courtyard, is a quadrangle from which you will find the main entrance into the castle, through a pair of great, gilded doors. A covered stone cloister with an open colonnade runs along the quadrangle, and two checkpoint towers flank its entryway via the Viaduct. There is a stone walkway leading from this courtyard into The Quad, and into the Viaduct Entrance. The courtyard is partially paved, in a cross pattern. You’ll always find students here, whether on a stroll or playing a game of Gobstones.

New Posts Middle Courtyard

The Middle Courtyard, also known as the Transfiguration Courtyard, is one of the cloisters in the inner sector of Hogwarts castle. After the battle of Hogwarts in 1998, the courtyard was destroyed, but was rebuilt a year later on cobbled ground, with tall archways leading to various corridors within the castle. One of these corridors leads to the Transfiguration Department, and also to the entrance of the Headmistress's office. There is one massive iron Armillary Sphere that stands in the center of the courtyard.

New Posts Clock Tower Entrance

The Clock Tower Entrance is one of the three main entrances to Hogwarts Castle (the other two being the Viaduct Entrance and the Entrance Hall). It consists of a large, open pathway at the base of the Clock Tower that leads into the castle, and a separate pair of stairwells that lead up to the Clock Tower. A massive pendulum swings back and forth by the entrance archway into the castle. The entrance gates can be sealed with a Portcullis Enchantment, activating the massive double doors that lock with several bolts and protective magic.
